Advocacy
PAs in Public Health
In 2024, New York State passed a pivotal bill (A.8378-A / S.9038-A) that formally recognized the role of PAs in public health. This legislation allows PAs to serve on county health boards and advisory councils, giving us a voice in shaping local health strategies, emergency planning, and community wellness initiatives. It marks a major step toward integrating clinical expertise into public health decision-making across the state.

"Getting involved with NYSSPA during my didactic year showed me what it truly means to advocate for my profession. It gave me the tools and confidence to advocate for my patients in clinicals, and now, as a soon to be graduate, I’m ready to continue fighting for both my patients and the future of our field."
-Salma A. PA-S
